The Best Intel Comes From Your Customer

One of the most rewarding things about building clothing is seeing people wearing it and loving how it works for them. Comments about how our garments and their different features function in the work place are invaluable to us. They help us design and build the best garments; in truth, many of our designs and features are great for one reason:

They came from you, the customer.

In the world of garment design it is often easy to fall into the trap of we know best. Here at Climate Technical Gear we have an Engineer as close to genius as I have ever known. We have designers with years of education and experience and people who have been building our industrial clothing for 10, 20, 30+ years.  Surely we know how to build and design our own product? This is the trap. We do have the knowledge and expertise to build garments and solve problems but we do not always know what problem to solve.

This is where the real opportunity in design is. When we engage with our customers and understand how they are using our gear the best ideas come from the problems they encounter.  Most times the solution is as simple as a new pocket, a better hood or a little extra fabric around the neck to make a jacket you wear for 12 or more hours a little more comfortable.  It’s those simple solutions that make all the difference; the ones we do not see in our design rooms.

Recently we’ve had feedback telling us that some of our pants were leaking.  Instead of saying: “that can’t be or our gear” or “it doesn’t do that”, we listened to what the customer was saying.  In fact, the pants were not leaking but rather wicking water up the inside of the leg.  We had never seen this before and would have never thought of it in our own design rooms. The solution was a simple facing on the inside of the leg resulting in a much better product for our customers. 

We listen because our customers make us better.
